The easiest way to boost a party member's offensive capabilities is to equip them with a better weapon. You can get new swords, boomerangs and other weapons either by buying them from a Weapons Merchant in a port, finding them in chests or as a reward after battles.
Each of your party members can only equip a certain type of weapon; for instance, Vyse uses cutlasses but can't equip Aika's boomerang. Weapons are equipped by pressing to open the menu, selecting the character, choosing "Equipment" and clicking on the first equipment slot. A list of the available weapons for that character will appear, as well as a description of the piece and its effects on the selected party member.
