Command & Conquer mode, or C&C mode, is the main multiplayer mode of Command & Conquer: Renegade. Players are divided into two teams: GDI and Nod. Each team has their own base and the goal is to destroy the opposing team's base. All players start out as basic Soldier infantry and can purchase character classes and vehicles to field onto the battlefield.

Mechanics[edit]

Base[edit]

A base in Renegade's C&C mode performs similar to that in other Command & Conquer titles where each building serves a purpose. Destroying a building will deny the owning team its functionality. Most multiplayer maps feature the following base buildings:

  • Power Plant: Provides power to automated base defenses. If the Power Plant is destroyed, base defenses will no longer function and costs of characters and vehicles will increase.
  • Refinery: Where much of the team's income is provided. A Harvester will automatically gather Tiberium and deposits its load to the Refinery, turning it into cash. If the Harvester is destroyed, another one will spawn from the Weapons Factory / Airstrip provided that structure is still up.
  • Barracks (GDI) / Hand of Nod (Nod): Allows players to purchase advanced character classes.
  • Weapons Factory (GDI) / Airstrip (Nod): Allows players to purchase vehicles.
  • Advanced Guard Tower (GDI) / Obelisk of Light (Nod): A large, automated base defense that can target ground and air units.

Some multiplayer maps may feature additional structures, such as the Repair Facility for repairing vehicles, Guard Towers for basic infantry defense, and the Communications Center (GDI) / Shrine of Nod (Nod) to enable purchases of Superweapon Beacon.

Variants[edit]

  • All-Out War (AOW): C&C mode with a time limit, typically between 30 minutes to an hour. The team with the most points wins when the timer expires, regardless of how many base buildings remain.
  • Marathon: C&C mode without a time limit. Players are entirely focused on destroying the enemy base as certain aspects of the game mode, such as gaining the most points, are obsolete.
